Course D1 – The comfort and safety of passengers for drivers of passenger carrying vehicles:
Classroom based with some practical exercises with a vehicle.
Number of hours: 7
Student/instructor ratio 1:12 (although this will be less for any practical exercises)
Course overview:
A course designed to ensure drivers of passenger carrying vehicles are aware of the legal requirements regarding the safety of passengers and others.
Work in the classroom will include consideration of the requirements of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, the Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000 and the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Use and Certification) Regulations 1981 as they refer to the maximum weight limits, carrying capacities and other requirements in relation to the safety of passengers and others. Powers of enforcement authorities in relation to the passenger carrying vehicles. Penalties for incorrect use of vehicles or equipment.
Consideration will be given to the special needs of certain groups and/or individuals (disabled passengers, children etc).
Handling conflict and personal interaction will be covered by means of role play situations.
