Course B3 – Health & safety for drivers of goods and passenger carrying vehicles:

Course overview:
A course designed to ensure drivers of goods and passenger carrying vehicles are aware of the legal requirements regarding the health and safety of themselves and others.
This course will include consideration of the requirements of the Health and safety at Work etc Act 1974 and its subsidiary Regulations. Candidates will look at general issues of health and safety, e.g. manual handling, what to do in the event of an accident etc as well as issues concerned specifically with road transport e.g. road accident statistics, safety considerations in respect of a vehicle in the event of a road traffic accident etc and other requirements in relation to the safety of passengers and others etc.
The course will consider the effect and impact of the use of drugs (both prescribed and other) and alcohol in the workplace together with the latest thinking on the effects of diet and nutrition on general health and well-being.
Candidates will be advised of what action to take if their vehicle is involved in an accident. This will include summoning assistance, evacuating the vehicle, preventing access to the scene for persons other than those from the emergency services, provision of relevant information to the emergency services and providing reports for insurance purposes.
During the course, candidates will look at basic first aid requirements but this is not a first aid course.
